Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his position after another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from management,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points naturally but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over recurring failings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase like this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones finished, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always compete.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
