Bellingham Must Eliminate the Nonsense to Secure a Central Position With Tuchel.

If Jude Bellingham wants to fight his way once again into England’s top starting eleven, the smart move to do away with the nonsense. His reaction when he saw that the substitute board was being shown following a night of uneven play in Tirana was not good enough.

"I’d rather not make more out of it but I stick to my words 'attitude matters' and consideration for the teammates who enter the game," stated Tuchel. "Decisions are made and you must accept them being a professional."

Bellingham has to learn. It was unnecessary for an outburst. The captain had recently scored to make the Three Lions 2-0 up in a meaningless match, there were six minutes left and he, following an inconsistent display, had just been booked for bringing down Armando Broja. It was not a questionable change. In fact it would have been foolish for the manager to keep Bellingham on the pitch given that there was a risk Bellingham would rule himself out of the first match of the competition by receiving a second yellow card.

Drawing Attention on Himself

Yet Bellingham drew all eyes toward himself. It was impossible to miss the young midfielder's disappointment upon understanding that he would be substituted for a teammate. He flung his arms in the air and even though he exchanged a handshake on his way to the sideline it was obvious that Tuchel was not impressed.

This represents the hurdle for Bellingham. He applauded Rashford for providing the assist for the captain to score his second of the night, but everything else was harmful to his cause. It's not like protesting was going to alter the decision. The coach has repeatedly emphasized respecting team hierarchies and the value of behaving correctly.

Under Scrutiny

The midfielder, not included in the team last month, has been under scrutiny after returning to the team recently. In effect his place has been in question and he hasn't helped his case through his behavior to his substitution as the national team rounded off a flawless qualification run by defeating a tough opposition from their opponents.

The System and the Setup

As a result the jury is out on if England perform optimally including Bellingham. What we saw was not definitive. Some new ideas were tested by the coach in the beginning. He has provided the team organization and direction over the past few matches, building with a No 6, a central midfielder, an attacking midfielder and specialist wingers, but there was a different feel against Albania. Jarell Quansah was given his first cap, Adam Wharton started for the first time internationally and the positioning of the defender as a makeshift midfielder created a similar look to City's historic treble-winning side.

A Game of Two Halves

Bellingham was a mixed bag. He made a chance for Eze in the latter period but frequently appeared overly eager to shine. There were a lot of rushed, misplaced passes. A pointless clash with an Albania midfielder in the early stages. The team looked disjointed for much of the second half. An opportunity for Albania resulted from he lost the ball cheaply. His caution came after an opponent took the ball from Broja and fouled the former Chelsea striker.

Substitutes Decide

Ultimately England’s depth made the difference. Tuchel threw on Foden, who appeared more comfortable to the role in which Bellingham operated earlier in the match, and Bukayo Saka. Eventually Saka provided a corner kick for Kane to score the first goal. It highlighted that corners and free-kicks will be crucial in the upcoming tournament.

Bridge Still Stands

However, the focus was on Bellingham. The excellence of the winger's delivery for Kane’s header was a little lost due to the fuss of the substitution incident. When the match concluded, the focus was on Bellingham. Tuchel came over from behind and guided Bellingham in the direction of the away supporters. Their connection is not damaged. The coach isn't ready to discard him at this stage. But if Tuchel is inclined to offer him the central position is not guaranteed.
