It has been confirmed that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

A Significant Comeback for the Franchise

Lawrence and Hutcherson are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Industry whispers indicate their appearance will take the form of a flash-forward sequence, given that the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.

This signifies the sixth cinematic outing in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.

Delving Into the Prequel

Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a recent book by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed most of the previous films in the series.

The film's story are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

The supporting roles feature several prominent actors in key parts:

• Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a younger version of the calculating President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence is receiving acclaim for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
